Cast Iron Skillet on the Grill
The kids came over for dinner tonight and Pamela decided at the last minute she wanted to grill out some steaks and fry up some sliced veggies. Well, I really didn’t feel like getting the stove and kitchen all gunked up with splattering oil, so I figured I’d try something new and cook the veggies in a cast iron skillet on the BBQ grill. It worked out great! I have a grill with 4 vertical burners, so I can adjust the heat directly over the grill fairly easily.
I added a little oil in the cast iron skillet and slowly heated it over a couple burners with the grill lid propped about half-way open. I put the sliced veggies in the skillet and put the steaks (1 1/2″ NY strips) on the grill at the same time. Of course, it depends on how you like your steak cooked and how crispy you like your fried veggies, but it just happened to work out great in this case. The steaks were tender and juicy and the veggies were fried just right.
Goes to show that there are all sorts of ways you can use cast iron cookware – just be creative!
